All members of the parrot family - which includes parakeets and cockatiels - like to manipulate objects with their feet and beaks. You might have noticed that your bird has a unique foot design call "zygodatyl". Zygodactyl feet have two front toes and two back toes. This enables parrots to lift, hold and manipulate objects with great desterity. The hooked bill acts as an additional "hand". In the wild the zygodactyl feet and the hooked bill allow parrots to collect food, climb trees and build habitats with an amazing facility.
Did you know Some parrots like to lie on their back and lift and play with toys, almost like a human baby!
